J-20 Ignition System
Hey Guys, I came across a '75 J20 w/401 motor and I'm constantly having ignition problems. At first it was the ignition module (small gold box on passenger side fender) replace it, started just fine, 2 weeks later, the coil, then back to the module by end of the month. Looking to upgrade components or complete system. Budget around $350. Vehicle has Prestolite distributor. Any comments are most welcome.

Re: J-20 Ignition System
swap to a later model duraspark system, get a distributer from any amcV8 after about 1978 and they should all have it, its an aluminum colored box on the driverside fender on Full sized Jeeps, a pretty easy harness to rob from donor, or make from scratch, and you can put a wider cap and good wires, and run an MSD ignition box ( instead of factory duraspark box) and a Ford TFI coil.
just the basic factory duraspark system is good cheap and reliable also. |
