Padre Island National Seashore wishes to express its gratitude for
all the effort by the volunteers who have participated in beach clean-
ups over the past year. Your work has made a tremendous difference.
Literally tons of trash have been removed from the shoreline.
Unfortunately, however, much remains to be done.
While much beach has been cleaned and is looking its best in many
years, almost all of the cleaning has been in the areas accessible by
two-wheel-drive cars. Outside of the spectacular work done by Billy
Sandifer and the SFCCI Big Shell clean-up, little trash has been
removed from the park's four-wheel-drive areas. Unfortunately, this
is the largest portion of the park.
The National Seashore would like to invite anyone with 4WD or any 4WD
club or organization to organize their own clean-up in our 4WD areas.
The National Seashore will provide all trash bags, light rubber
gloves, and safety advice needed as well as designating a section of
beach to be cleaned. We will also issue certificates to commemorate
the event or to document community service hours. We would like to
remind everyone that all vehicles on the National Seashore must be
street-legal and licensed and that driving is not permitted in the
dunes, grasslands, or mudflats.
For more information or to organize a clean-up, call the number above
