1988 Wagoneer....Info please....

Everyone,

I found a 1988 Wagoneer Limited for sale. Its got the straight 6, auto tranny, 140k. It looks to be in good shape with no rust and a straight body. The guy wants $3,000 for it. I havent driven it but he says it runs good with no real problems. Sound like an ok deal?

I was wondering what kind of axles are under there? Does anyone know. I think they are dana 35's but I cant be sure. It doesnt have manual hubs...wish it did, and it has 2wd, part time 4x4, full time 4x4, and a 4x4 low selection. Why does it have a part time and full time 4x4 selection? Is this a reliable setup or do they have problems with slipping out of 4wd when you really need it! Does anyone here know if the stock parts on it are enough to handle a lift and 33's? And does anyone make a good lift for it? How much lift will it take to clear some 33x12.50's on 15x8's?

I'm not out to make a hard core trail rig but I need more ground clearance and bigger tires to make it to some of my fishing holes!

So in short is this gonna be an ok vehicle or should I keep looking?

Thanks,
David

Is this a full size wag, or a "downsize" cherokee like wagoneer?

Sorry about the delay, haven't been here in a while. That is a mjid size xj, this is the full size sj board. I'd tell you what I know anyway, but I don't know much about the xj, except: the front is prob a Dana 30, the rear is a Dana 35 c-clip type, or could be a chrysler corperate depending on tow package. The 4 liter six is a good low end torquer, but tends to run hot. The mid size board can do you a lot better.

The Chrysler corprate didn't go in the XJ till the mid 90's. The rear is either the D35 or if your lucky the D44. And the front is the D30.
