79 J truck driveline ???\'s

HI everyone. I'm from over at the SWB BBS and found a 79 J10 this weekend and have a few questions as to the drivetrain. I think that it is a 360/T18A/D20 combo. Does this sound right? The truck is being used as a plow truck for a local car dealer and comes with the plow, the body is shot, but is inspected till 8/02. Does $1600 sound in the ball park for this? I'm looking to part it out and sell whatever I don't use for my CJ7. TIA.

Drivetrain sounds right. That combo was offered and $1600 is reasonable. You can probably get a good offer for the plow setup, especially if it's the original option. If you're parting it, post your unwanted parts on here or the IFSJA site.

I have a '79 J10 with a 360/TH400/QT/D44's
The combo you listed sounded like an '83 or newer.
I may be wrong though.

Both combos were offered. The TH400 always had the QT behind it. Manuals had the D20.

Re: 79 J truck driveline ???\'s

Thanks for the replys. I've been hearing that the T18A in the Jtruck is not the tranny that I want because it has a real long input shaft and would have to swap it out to fit into my SWB and would also need an adapter to fit my D300. I'm most likely going to pass this one up and keep looking for a better donor. Thanks again.

Yes it does use a spacer. You would have to change the imput shaft. I feel you would be better off finding a T18 from a CJ donor instead.
