What do I got? 1980 cherokee

My old man has a 1980 cherokee that he said I can have for parts for my 79 CJ5. I am wondering what this cherokee has in it as far as axles, tranny, X-case, and any other parts you know of that are interchangable. The rig has the 360 in it and an auto tranny, thats about all I know, also it has the transfer case shifter under the seat.
What does this jeep have? I am think of putting the 360 in my CJ, and wondering what else I should use, I think it has a Dana 44 in the front, but not sure. maybe a model 20 in the rear? let me know what you think.
thanks
tony

Re: What do I got? 1980 cherokee

With the shift UNDER the driver seat... sounds like there is only one choice there.... BW1339 Quadratrac Unit with low range. This unit was ONLY mounted to a TH400. Since you should have the TH400/QT combo... it is mostly likely to have the Dana 44 up front (30 spline pass side diff) and the QT offset Dana 44 rear (also 30 spline pass side diff).

axles may have 3.54's or 3.31's...dunno if they had any other gear options than that.... but the front id open and back MAY have a LSD diff but not likely....

Re: What do I got? 1980 cherokee

actually the Tcase shifter on my 1980 cherokee wide track was at the right front edge of the driverseat, is this what you mean by under the seat?

and its a amc 360,tf727,Np208 ( if it has lock out hubs)

front is dana 44, rear is heavy duty amc 20/

the easiest way to tell if its the drivetrain I described or the drivetrain Riverbeast described is too see what side the front axles differential is on, driversside is the drivetrain I described, passenger side is drivetrain River beast described, also with the Qtrack drive train the rear axle will be offset, the tf727 Np208,219,229 will have a centered rear axle.
BUT if it has fender flares, its really wide for a CJ.

if its a 2 door ,look at the VIN, the 4rth and 5th numbers, a 17 indicates widetrack, a 16 indicates 2 door narrow track, a 18 indicates 4 door narrow track chokree( not common)

if its a wide track those axles are WIDE

the engine is a good donor the rest prob isnt really, depeneding on what your trying to achive withteh CJ

I'm pretty sure the quadratrac was last used in '79
