AMC 360 Intake Manifold replacements...

I want to replace my intake manifold with something a little more high performance. I was looking at the Edelbrocks. Does anybody know if this is California Street Legal? I havent been able to get a response from edelbrock yet. I also will probably need an aftermarket LEGAL carb.
Thanks.
This is for a 1989 Grand Wagoneer, So, I will need all that EGR stuff that it has.
Thanks.

Interested in a stock 4bbl intake & carb? From a 79 Waggie, drop a line to my email. Also I doubt that the edels will be left coast legal

You need the Edelbrock with the EGR port. I believe that carries an E.O. #. The Holley 4160 carb is also legal but you have to maintain your stock air cleaner with thermal tube and crankcase breather. Not sure about the edelbrock carb. The Holley will fit on the factory AMC 4bbl manifold but the edelbrock will need an adapter.

Chris . . . correct me if I'm wrong . . . I thought on Edelbrock's site they said specifically the EGR manifold was not emissions legal.

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/man_amc.html

Note the asterisk next to the EGR manifold and the disclaimer at the bottom : (.

That being said, there is no reason in the world that anyone need know that it was under there. A little AMC blue paint, and only the most inquisitive of emissions inspectors would know you had changed the carb/intake : ).

Going that route, as long as you re-run all of the EGR stuff and keep all of the CTOs, you could run the Edelbrock 1405 or 1406 and be in good shape. Or, you have the $$ you could go with the Holley Projection which I beleive carries a CARB # and would give you superior overall performance and better emissions : ). Of course at $800.00 Fuel Injection ain't exactly economical for most of us.

I personally went with the total package. Cam/Lifters/Springs/Intake/1405 carb w/ add-on electric choke. I LOVE the improved performance.

Weird. I thought that's why edelbrock included the egr, so it could get an E.O # from the air board. A CJ owner I know has an EGR edelbrock and he passed the visual in CA. The guy said as long as the EGR hole was there and the valve was installed. I've also read many magazines and books that claimed the egr manifold was a legal replacement. I'll see if I can check further, cause I'm thinking of getting one when I build my 401.

Re: AMC 360 Intake Manifold replacements...

I fought the egr deal when picking a manifold - the edlebrock with egr was almost 2x the price without. So going the cheaper route, All I had to do is replace my Holley 600 with a 600 smogger carb, reduce the jets to 61's and put in a two stage power valve (also 2x the price)- all this included 1/2 dozen jet changes, couple of power valve changes, and 1/2 a dozen trips to the emmission testing *****s and carb/annalizer specialists. - Boy did I show them! Do yourself a favour, don't try shortcuts, the edlebrock with egr and a Holley smogger will work - save yourself lots of grief/money/time !! P.S. make sure you put a thermal block of at least 1 inch thick between carb and manifold.
