What will fit?

I threw a rod on the 360 engine. I am thinking of building with a Chevy 383. I heard there are adapter kits, but want to know if anything will bolt right up besides another 360 Jeep engine. Its all time 4 wheel drive, Holly TBI, edelbrock intake (wich may go up for sale), theres alot of nice work done, but want extra torque.

Wherever you go....there you will be.

Well the 304, 390 and 401 AMC engines should all fit. As well as the 285 I6 I think.

Re: What will fit?

Andy's right about the AMC engines. With your TH400 tranny you can take a chevy TH400 and swap tail shafts from the AMC TH400 and then your 383 would bolt right up, just hafta fab some mounts. You could also look for an AMC 390 from an AMX (rare) or build one (401 crank in a 360 block). Edelbrock also offers the Torker series of intakes and Comp Cams has some more extreme cams vs. the Edelbrock Performer series that would give you some more low end. I really like the idea of the 258 six with the later 4.0HO heads and tuned port injection, not gobs of power (better than a stock 360 though!), but plenty of low end grunt and decent mpg. But I also love the idea of a 383HD VORTEC TPI (maybe an LT1?) mated either to the TH400 or TH700R4. But I get carried away . . . .
