Wagoneer quits while driving

For the past couple of months, my '76 Wagoneer (360 with 4-barrel Holley) stalls while running at both low and high speeds. It happens both while the engine is cold and hot, but most often when it just warms up. The thing just stops as I'm driving, making me a ticking sitting duck. Usually I can ram it into neutral and turn it over a couple of times to get her going, but there are those white knuckle times coasting to a safe place to stop where it takes a little more effort to get going. I've changed fuel filter, cap, plugs and now I'm looking at things like the EGR, coolant temp override (CTO) switch --I don't have one on my thermostat housing?--, and PCV valve.
Does anyone some suggestions? I'd appreciate your help. ...thanks.

Check your wires going to the coil and ignition switch> Do you have an electric fuel pump? if so check those conections and wires as well. Sorry I can't think of more right now. Norm

Re: Wagoneer quits while driving

I had this happen on my '75. Exact same symptoms. Would die right when it warmed up. Turned out to be a defective ignition coil.

Re: Wagoneer quits while driving

I would start with the ignition system. The motorcraft electronic ignition module and ignition coil are very popular for doing this. I'm not sure if yours is new enough to have the Delco alt./Motorcraft system but my '77 did.

Do you have a see through fuel filter? If not....I would get one. If you have one, you can see if your getting fuel when this happens. I'd also check the ignition system. Got to be one of the two.

Wherever you go....there you will be.
