I still have the stock 7" wide aluminum rims on my Amigo (i kept them 'cause I love how they look) Pretty soon i'm going to be upgrading from a 31x10.50R15 to a 33x12.50R15 tire and was worried about bead breaks. I've heard that you shouldn't run a tire wider than 9" on a 7" rim, but the 10.5's haven't messed up yet. How safe are 12.5's on a 7" rim? If I need different rim, who makes rims that look close to the stock aluminum Amigo rims?
the 12.5's are too wide for a 7" rim. you need at least an 8". you won't ever break a bead because the narrow rim clamps the tire on like a vise, but your tread will be bowed causing uneven wear(center will wear outside won't). I ran 31X10.50R15's on 6 in wide rims and had the wear problem i just stated.
I am running 33x12.50s on the origional rims on my 91 'Migo.
other than needing a lift to clear them, they seem to be doing pretty good. The fronts are wearing a little because I haven.t got a alignment since I did the upper ball joint swap and torsion bar crank, but it's in the works.
When putting a tire on a thinner rim, they end up being taller than on a wider rim.
