Starter Replacement

I have a '95 4 door Trooper with a manual and the 175 hp V6. It has all the goodies like skid plates, limited slip etc. I finally burned out the stock starter starting it in gear on the trails. I am curious how to physically remove the starter from its cramped space. I know the basic "remove the appropriate wire connections and bolts" but can't seem to find enough space to pull out the starter without removing the front suspension's crossmember or the oil pan. Is there an easier way or if not are there any hints to making this less painfull?

Thanks, TheKid
