Trooper exhaust

my roommate has an '89 trooper that needs a new exhaust system. He was told that the Y-pipe that comes just before to cat-converter costs close to $700. That doesn't sound right and was wondering if there is any other place that he could get the pipe from?..thanks

Re: Trooper exhaust

I assume that this is a 2.8 V6 since you mention "Y" pipe, ?yes? That $700 price for the piece must be a dlr quote, I can't imagine any aftermarket that would charge that much. Maybe try St. Charles Isuzu, they give discounts and are very knowledgeable on Isuzu stuff. Go to the www.itog.com main page and click on the "ITOG Marketplace". You'll find info on St. Charles Isuzu there. You also might try posting at the ITOG Discussion Forum, it's way more active than this site.

You also might check with a good local muffler shop to see if they could build a new pipe. It should be just a matter of bending and fitting it up, and installing the socket where the O2 sensor screws in. Here's a good performance tip: if you do have one built, have the single pipe which connects to the catalytic converter changed to 2-1/2" and install a new 2-1/2" cat and exhaust system. It will provide a great performance boost. And if your friend has ever considered any performance upgrades at all, the exhaust is the 1st thing to change. A good muffler shop should be able to install a new exhaust system from the cat back for $300, then just add the fab of the "Y" pipe.

Good Luck, HTH..........ed
