Which engine? I think the 2.6 liked to blow head gaskets. The 2.3 is durable though. Got 145K on mine and I overheat it all the time with no problem.

I an totally amazed at what the suspension will hold up to. I've jumped my '87 P'UP several times without breakage. The '88s had stronger suspensions, so they will withstand a severe beating. I can't remember, but I think the '87 has an 8 bolt front and 10 bolt rear and the 88's have a 10 bolt front and a 12 or beefed 10 bolt rear. Check back through http://www.itog.com , the info is there. I don't trust my memory.

Just wondering, why is this truck a P.O.S., or are you just picking on the little guys?

Hit? Them tires rub. Rubbin's off roadin.

I have never owned own, but have know several people who have, and have seen them in action in the dirt.

they do as well as a Toy pickup or 4Runner of the same year. The "look" to be narrower. The seem to be very chintzy on the interior, the don't hold up as well over time as the toyotas. I rode in a 1990 on some wash board and it felt and sounded like the thing was falling apart, the day before I drove in a cherokee and it rode like a champ. Quite a diff. The Trooper ain't a hard core wheeler, but is does ok. It doesn't last long, and their is no aftermarket support like Toyota (or Nissan)
