Short in running lights

I spent the evening (well, part of it, anyway, the rest I spent eating brownies, but that's a story for another day) tracking down a short in my mom's '91 Trooper and traced it to somewhere between the headlight switch and either the front or rear running lights or the dash lights. So, I guess I didn't really find the short, but you get the idea. So, since I know nothing about Troopers, is there any sort of common wiring issues with them or am I going to have to take most of her truck apart, get fed-up and then have her go to a shop and pay to get it fixed, thereby leaving less money in the "Cook Brownies for Her Dear Son Troy Fund"? Oh, it is a serious short to ground. Put in a fuse, pull the headlight switch one click and the fuse is gone. Blown like a, well, like a thing or something. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears, I'll even have her make some more brownies and send them to you.
