I was wondering what size of exhaust pipe I should use with a 392...Thanks...

I'd recommend dualed 2.25" pipes

SPEED KILLS BUT YA GET THERE FASTER

It really depends on what you're going for in sound, and what type of mufflers you're going to run. If you want a deep, throaty tone then go with a bigger pipe like 2.5 or a 3in. If you want more popping and cackling then go with smaller like 2 or 2.25in. On my '77 Traveler with a 345 I'm running 2.25" right off the exhaust manifolds, then it turns into 2.5" (as big as I could go and still fit the passenger-side pipe between the transfer case and the frame) then turns into 3" behind the transfer. The 3" runs into dual flowmasters with 3" turndowns off the back of the mufflers. That has worked out great for me, I love the sound and performance they put out with that setup. It's really just a personal preference on how you want it to perform and sound.

Exhaust Size

Well, if you're not going to go with 3" open headers like I have.. ;-)

2.25" is the best you'll do stock. If you pull your transfer case out and put it in the chop-saw and remove the unnecessary "ear" on the front passenger side of the front bearing retainer you could probably do 2.5" or so down the passenger side.

When I had the 'case out on my race truck I put it in the chop saw - so I can run some straight pipes and hang mufflers off 'em for tuning purposes.

My trail rig runs dual 2.25s with dual Thrush Turbos.
