Ignition timing

What is the best way to set timing on an IH motor? with points? ie. disconnect vacuum advance? rev so high? any other details?

Re: Ignition timing

You pretty much have it right- disconnect the vacuum advance, make sure it is warmed up and idled down to normal idle, then TIME OFF OF #8 CYLINDER. If you speed the engine up, it will engage the centrifugal advance and give you incorrect readings. IH is unlike most 'normal' engines (like Chevy) which time off of #1 cylinder; IH uses #8.
