Driveshaft Questions

I have recently gotten a hold of a automatic trans for my 71 Scout. It currently has the T-19 4 speed in it. Are the driveshafts the same between auto and stick, or will I have to fabricate new shafts.

I will probably have to build a new rear shaft anyway. I plan on putting a overdrive unit on the end of the trans for mileage.

Re: Driveshaft Questions

They are different. The 727 spaces the Dana 20 rearward approximately 1". That means your 4spd rear 'shaft is 1" too long and the front is 1" too short for use with a 727.

Many people have simply reused their existing driveshafts and it worked, so YMMV.

When I did the spring-over on my race truck with a 727 and Dana 44s, I used a stock 4spd rear driveshaft (1" too long for a stock Scout w/ 727) for the rear end. It fits just fine - the extra inch is what I needed for the SOA.
