New Carb?

My scout has had a problem lately with it's idle, it won't! It stalls when I come to stop signs and such. I had a tune up -- no change. My mechanic says I need a carb rebuild or a new one. A call to my local parts store stated that there are two available, a 4250 or a 4300. How do I tell which one is correct? Is one for a manual vs an electric choke? (I have electric choke). The price is $165 which seems reasonable, or should I have my mechanic rebuild the one I have? Any help is appreciated!

Re: New Carb?

I just replaced mine this past weekend. (The rebiuld price is about $30 cheaper if you want to rebiuld it.) Took about an hour to install. I ended up going with the rebuilt Holley model#2245. It's a reman from Champion. Found mine the cheapest at Advance auto. $163 plus core. Advance Part #20-20. It has the automatic/hot air choke. I also installed the electric choke from my old Holley that was on there. Bolted right on with 2 screws. The only adjustment I had to make was the idle screw. Other than playing with that the Carb was a piece of cake..I know this one will work because I have a 79ScoutII with the 304,727 as well..
