Update

Heres my update on the 79'.. Yesterday I put new (used tires) on. Put new windshield wipers on, and tightened up the exhaust donut gasket. Went and got tags and insurance. Drove it to local inspection station (on the way a local PIG gave me a ticket for no inspection,$%^&*$#@) I was literally within sight of the inspection station!! What and ---hole... Any way It was rejected for a brake light, defroster blower not blowing, and tag light. Thats it!!!!!!!! fixed the 2 bulbs and plan on running a toggle switch to blower motor. I was surprised that that was all that was wrong... And I only paid $400 for it. Taking it back Monday to reject the rejection sticker..One question= What can I expect to pay to rebuild the transmission with a shift kit?

1979 ScoutII,304V8,727 auto...

727 Rebuild

I think Giddum Up Scout sells rebuilt TF727s for $350 exchange.

I think the basic trans rebuild kit is around $100. I haven't looked at shift-kit prices lately.. another $50? So you might get away with rebuilding it yourself for under $200.

Local prices will vary.. recently saw someone get quoted $1500 to have his 727 rebuilt. OUCH.

I rebuilt mine with kevlar racing clutches, a hand-built valve body, upgraded reverse servo and band.. new pump, new steels.. I'm pretty sure that all came in under $200 excluding the custom valve body.

Re: 727 Rebuild

LOL. Mebbe.. but I have a body tub to rebuild for my Scout. Now that I have the drivetrain in order, I'm working on demolishing the body. Took out the passenger side door and added to the quarter panel damage on Saturday.

Didja know that a Scout II door is twice as thick as it needs to be? Crushed it to 1/2 thickness and it still opens/closes and the window works..
