345 Rebuild

Anyone Rebuilt a 345. Thinking about trying it out. Got a 73' ScoutII I bought for $200. Engine's been sitting for a few years. What can I get myself into?

Re: 345 Rebuild

The question is does it Run. I have see Scout engines that have sat for years and just give it a little tlc and it runs great. My 69 800a sat for about 5 years. I just put gas in it and it runs like a champ. Try starting it. What do you have to loose.

Re: 345 Rebuild

I tried turning it over. No response. Then I tried turning the main pulley with a big wrench, broke it. Think it is locked up. A guy at work said to pour some transmission fluid into the cylinders via the sparkplug holes, let it sit for a few days and try again.. I'm going to try that.. For $200 what the heck..

Re: 345 Rebuild

I rebuilt my 345 last winter - my first engine overhaul.

I tried to write up most of my experience..

Take a look at - http://tech.4x4play.com/international/index.html

Re: 345 Rebuild

is the starter in it good? when you tried to turn it over with the wrench, did you tke the spark plugs out to take away the compression?
