Cooling should improve. Fan shrouds force the fan to draw air in through the radiator. A fan without a shroud can (and often does) draw air from above or below it. Not only is that hot air 'cause it's in the engine compartment, but it's not going through the radiator in the first place. So yeah, a fan shroud helps immensely. I've heard it's also good to install a fan clutch.
