fan shroud

On that same 73 I don't have a fan shroud - did the 73 with the 345 have one? Thanks!

Yep all Scout II's came with fan shrouds.

Re: fan shroud

They did? I thought I heard somewhere that a fan shroud was an option with gas-powered Scout II's (although standard with diesels; diesels also have a metal shroud versus the plastic one that gassers use). Lean something new every day

Re: fan shroud

I guess the question is - if I don't have one does it matter - I was thinking that low speed cooling - ie when I'm off road - would improve with a fan shroud- correct? Thanks for the imput! JW

Re: fan shroud

Cooling should improve. Fan shrouds force the fan to draw air in through the radiator. A fan without a shroud can (and often does) draw air from above or below it. Not only is that hot air 'cause it's in the engine compartment, but it's not going through the radiator in the first place. So yeah, a fan shroud helps immensely. I've heard it's also good to install a fan clutch.
