IH Auto-locking Hubs

my scout has the original IH auto-locking hubs on it, but they are trashed. i got the clutch body off the front of the hub. however, i cant get any farther than that. what do i need to do next? ive been lookin in my manuals but they arent really clear about it. thanks a lot.

There should be a snap ring on the end of the axle. Remove the 6 bolts that hold the inner part of the locking hub and slide off the axle shaft.

There is a little trick to removing that snap ring. I was just into mine last weekend and fought it for a while until I remembered my trick. Take a 7/16 (i think that's the right size) fine thread bolt, screw it into the axle shaft end. You can then use that bolt to pull out the axle enough to make it a lot easier to remove or reinstall that snap ring.
