engine/ tranny swap questions

I'm going to attempt to swap a new motor into my scout this weekend and could use some advice. My Scout is a '71 800B with a factory 304, 4speed combo. The 4 speed may or may not be granny and had reverse up and to the right. The motor I plan to swap in is a 345 out of a 75 3/4 ton pick up. It currently has a 4 speed attached to it with reverse down and to the right. Now for the questions.

Any pearls of wisdom on swapping a 345 in place of the 304?

Any way to find out what the first gear ratio of a tranny is while it's in a non-running truck? i.e; gear tag, serial #, ect.

The tranny attached to the 345 is supposedly granny geared but is set up for a divorced t-case. As far as mating that tranny to my dana 20 Ive got answers ranging from it can't be done to just swap the adapter and output gear in place on the yoke. Anyone know from expirence?

Does anyone have a use for a 304 with a sucked valve on #8 cyl?

Thanks for the advice. Happy Trails
Travis

Re: engine/ tranny swap questions

Swapping the 345 in place of the 304 should be just a bolt-up. The tranny swap might be tougher. Aside from the 2wd/4wd issue, I
believe the input shafts are different lengths - I think the T19 out of the '75 truck has the long input shaft like a Scout II, while the
Scout 800s had a shorter input shaft (the Scout 80 had the short input shaft anyway - I'm assuming the 800s did too). It'll probably
be easier to stay with the original 4 speed from the 800, and just swap engines.

Later,
Curt

i read somewhere that the oil pans are different between scouts and trucks? i know my scout has the 2 sump pan. if so wont you have to swap the pan and oil pump to do the conversion?
