how much damage will reversing polarity do?

im thinking about making an offer on a 69 scout with the straight 6. The guy said the wireing is ruined because the accidentally reversed the polarity. My question is how much damage could it have done?

The 232 that you have has a ballast resistor between the ignition and the coil. This is probably all that burned up. It is less likely, but not unheard of to burn up the starter solenoid as well. You can bypass that by doing a ford solenoid conversion.

Do some searches over at binder planet, just IH and Ihonlynorth forums. You'll find a wealth of information.
