Re: Distributor swap ?

I believe Mallory makes a distributor that fits IH v8s. I also know of at least one owner (Ken Farmer) who put
a GM HEI distributor into his IH, though it's not exactly a bolt-on (see http://www.digest.net/ihc/archive/v5/msg02404.html
for an ihc-digest re-post of Ken's description of the swap).

Later,
Curt

Re: Distributor swap ?

IMO, the best *stock replacement* distributor swap would be to remove the '78 Prestolite distributor (or do you have a goldbox on the firewall?).

get a Holley points distributor from a pre 74 Scout II or IH truck/T'all, dump-truck, school bus, whatever. Put a Pertronix Ignitor in it. Put the points in your glovebox "just in case" right next to that book of matches.

I have a recurved points/Pertronix distributor from Gryphin Racing in my new 345 and so far so great.

I've been replacing all of my distributors with points distys and Pertronix ignitors. I do have two V8 goldbox distributors, and one 4cyl Goldbox EI.. might put one on mom' s Scout to dump the '79 Prestolite..

Re: Distributor swap ?

remember that if the distrubutor is just not working you can still get a new module (for the electronic ign) to go in it... i just had to get one actually for mine... a lot less of a pain than changing the distrubutor and you don't have to worry about blowing your exhaust off (if you put in a tooth or so off)...
