Engine Swap Scout III 73

Hello friends!!!!.......

One friend of mine has a Scout III 73 with the 345 V8 engine, his engine doesn´t have enough power to move his truck and he is thinking on rebuid the engine or swap another one, do you have any ideas about what kind of engines can be swaped on his Scout?? what about engine and manual tranny?? Which cars have those engines or engines and trannies to look for in a wrecking yard??
Please post here the answer and also send me a copy to [email protected]

Thanks!!!

Jorge

Re: Engine Swap Scout II 73

I assume you mean a Scout II. If you want more power than a 345, the easiest swap would be to
put in an IH 392. It's a bolt-in.

Curt

Re: Engine Swap Scout II 73

You are right it is a Scout II but here is very difficult to find an IH engine, so he wants to change it for a chevy, dodge or ford engine, which one could fit with his auto tranny??? Any ideas???

Thanks

Jorge

Re: Engine Swap Scout II 73

its not that simple... i think IH trannys are unique... are you sure its the engine and not the tranny?
also, how long since plugs changes (spark) and wires etc. those can contribute heavily...
if you want to put a chevy or ford in yo may have to get a tranny also....
if anything does match, it will be ford becuase IH makes the diesels in the super duty trucks but i don't know if smaller gas engines have same bolt pattern...(not really too likely) but you could always put a brand new diesel in
