Shifter/Transmission Cable

Does anyone know of a Shifter/Transmission cable that correctly fits a 79 IH Scout II(345). I was also wondering, does anyone appose the idea of just welding it back together. It broke, flush with the nut where it connects into the shifter handle. ???? Thank You

Re: Shifter/Transmission Cable

Call your local Scout dealer. The units are available for about 45 dollars. You can repair the cable if you want, most of the time the cable gets real stiff before it breaks.that problem will still be their if you weld the cable.

Re: Shifter/Transmission Cable

Thanks for the info, I have already gone ahead and welded, because I figured it was worth a shot, since I was going to have to replace it anyway. For now, it has held(knock on wood), but like you said, the cable itself is quite stiff. Now, I have another question. Now that I have everything put back together, whenever I put it in Park, the vehicle continues to roll, making a loud clunking noise (possibly from the rear end). Does anyone know what it is. Well, if nothing else I have now learned what the parking blocks in parking spots are for. The reason it is a problem is I don't have a parking break. Any further help would be appreciated. Thank You.

The parking paw is now being fully engauged. This is because the cable is out of now to short you can undo the bottom of the cable at the trans end and adjust it that way.The bottom still has threads on it
