Dana 44 internal spline hubs?

Just a dumb Jeep guy asking probably a routine question. I am gracing my 1968 CJ5 with a narrowed '79 Scout Dana 44. I really want to get internal spline lockout hubs. Does the warn kit for Jeeps fit the Scout. Any other swaps known of? I researched in the wheel bearing books and it looks like the bearings are the same for the Scout and the 1976-80 Jeep. Does anyone know that they will work or have done it better? Thanks for the help.

Re: Dana 44 internal spline hubs?

Hey Sam, what you want to do is probably the best thing to do for your jeep. I run the Warn internal spline hubs on my '78 Scout II. They are easy to install, just knock out the the old 6 bolt hub and install the new hub thats provided in the kit. Yes the bearings are the same. When I did mine I bought all new bearings and seals, so that everything was new. You will need a four prong hub socket if you don't have one. Hope this helps

The Warn kit'll work for a SII axle.

There are other ways of getting internal hubs on a Dana 44 - you could swap full-size truck outers (knuckle, spindle, rotor, hub, stub-shaft) on. Probably requires some steering linkage changes to finish the job - depends on how much work you're already doing, of course!

Thanks for the info. I called 4 Wheel Wholesalers today before I got home from work and they say a 76-80 CJ5 hub conversion is the same as the Scout. Thanks for the confirmation!
