ScoutII rear quarter/endcap removal

Hi everyone,
I am going to be tearing the endcaps and rear quarters off my '74 in a few wks and replace them. What's the best way to take these pieces off the main tub without massive carnage and damage to it?

Re: ScoutII rear quarter/endcap removal

A body shop supply house can fix you up with a special drill for spot welds, it fits in a regular 3/8 drill motor, the cutter has a replacable pilot drill that cuts through both panels, and a1/2" cutter that removes the spot weld on the bad panel side. Another method is to cut the bad panel about 1/2" inside the weld area, then use a angle grinder to grind the spot welds while pulling up the metal strip with vise grips, it should roll up like a sardine can when you get good at it.
good luck, jjc

Jim Weed has a great website that explains how to replace rear quaters as well as many other neat things.
