Re: scout 2 low range?

Most Scout II's have the dana 20 transfer case, which has a 2.0:1 low range. Some had a
one-speed transfer case, so they had no low range. Only the 1980 scouts had the Dana 300,
which has a low range of about 2.6 (2.63?) to 1.

Re: scout 2 low range?

The transfer case in the 70 is a Dana 20 with a 2.04:1 Low range. If you want a lower gearing, a Quick fix would be a Dana 18 which has a 2.46:1 low gear.

Re: scout 2 low range?

Another way to get your low range lower would be to get a US Gear underdrive unit. I'm not sure if they make one for Scouts, but I'm sure one could be retrofitted on. It goes between the transmission and transfer case, so you can use it in 2 wheel, too. It's mostly used for towing applications, but I'm sure it's be useable for off-roading, too. It works like a split rear-end. Just a thought...
