Buy or not to Buy

I have found a 1962 scout with a half top. Body is in very good shape, basically ready to paint. All running gear is in good shape has a twin shifter. Don't know what gears are in it. The only thing is it has NO brakes. All the glass is even still there! How much would this be worth? He said to name a price. I don't know alot about these. Ive mostly been into jeeps and toyota's. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Luv my JEEYOTA {wink}

Re: Buy or not to Buy

Gearing should be either 4.27 or 4.88, axles should be dana 27s. Sounds like a nice truck if the body
is as good as you describe. Price/value is very difficult to estimate - these trucks are old enough and
their condition varies so much that the price for other transactions aren't neccesarily applicable.
Sounds like the seller is fairly motivated though.

Good luck!

Later,
Curt

Re: Buy or not to Buy

I bought my 1963 Scout for 1000, and its body was in really good condition and ran rather well.. It had a clutch problem but that was about it. So I would try to get it for about that much... As far as recomending one to you, you might want to think of what kind of vehicle you want before you buy it... Because if you want to drop a V8 in it sometime, it will be very difficult.. and making it an off-roading machine will take a lot of money and time.. Anyways, good luck to you.. The Scout 80s are quite unique

Re: Buy or not to Buy

I bought a late 60's that is pretty rusty in floor area and in front of rear wheel wells and didn't run for $375. What I found out after buying it was that basically all the sheet metal on the interior like the floors, seat box, etc is square box shaped. I can buy new metal in full sheets to replace it all with the fab shop at work. It should be running this weekend after new distributor parts. It is worth $1000 if body is great.
