62 scout engine options

I recently traded my Chevy Blazer for a 3 speed 1962 scout 80 4x4. I would like to replace the original 4 cyl. engine with a fresh small block chev or something. Are there any particular engines that will work better or fit better in this scout? Im open to any advice.
thanks!!

P.S.
I proudly drive a scout to school!!

Re: 62 scout engine options

I don't know much - but the scout 800 I've got has a stock V-8 304 in it, and my jeep has a Chevy 350. They're about the same size (actually the Chevy is a little smaller I think). I'm pretty sure you can stuff a small block chevy into just about anything. Lots of considerations, but I think it could be done! (If the IH engine in mine craps out I want to get a vortec crate engine to drop in)
Advance adapters and Novak conversions both have good info on their websites. (www.novak-adapt.com)
