My Grandfather has a 73 scout that has been sitting for almost 10 years. The body is straight, has some surface rust. It has around 60,000 miles and it ran when he parked it. He says that it has the "bigger" V8 in it and it ran great.
The interior is in very good condition.
Any idea what it would be worth? We want me to make him a fair offer and I can have it.
Running? Driveable? That makes a big difference in price - whether it should or not is open to discussion. If I were looking to get it and not wanting to feel like I cheated anyone I'd start around $500. For that matter if he is in the Chicago area, I might take it off his hands if you're not interested. He could probably sell it for $500 to someone near him interested in parts alone.
The parked for 10 years thing is scary, you have lots of issues that need to be addressed before you know what you have and similarly what is really is worth. Was it kept inside? There were 3 v-8's that you might have, the 304, 345 and 396. All very similar engines - same block as I understand it. The Binderbulletin has tools for figuring out value as well you might want to check there. http://www.binderbulletin.org
