Best weight oil to use

We have a 79 Scout II with a 345 engine. We are currently using straight 40 weight oil in it, however, when it warms up the pressure drops. We are thinking since this engine is also used in some big trucks we should use a heavier weight oil, like 20w 50. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the help.

20w50 is fine if you don't live in cold climates. As for your oil preasure situation......your oil preasure comes off of your cam bearings. So if it's good cold and drops off hot, all signs point to not a complete over haul done but maybe some new bears in it soon. Just some info for you too.
