345 from 64 IHC dumptruck

I have a 1974 Super Scout 2 without a motor, trans, or transfer case. I recently found an old Govt. surplus IHC Dump truck with a 345 in it. The delivery date was April 1964 so it has to be a 64 or earlier. I am wondering if it is the same 345 block used in Scouts and if I can get new motor mounts that will match the old 345 and my scout. The dump truck had a mount under the harmonic balancer, and the only other mount was a cradle under the trans. I also need to know if I can determine what type of transmission I took out of the old dump truck. Will the serial # tell me or do I need to look at the # on the trans itself.

This the data I have on the Dump Truck:Model# 1890 Serial# FD 63008 G
Govt. contract # DA-20-113-AMC-02310 T

Re: 345 from 64 IHC dumptruck

First of all, what kind of mounts does your scout have? saddle mounts? I am trying to think, somewhere along the line I have read that the reason the single front mount was used, and I believe that was simply because of the position of something but a brain fart keeps me from thinking of the answer. I am sure though that you should be able to mount the engine in your scout without too much trouble.

I am unfamiliar of the 8 cylinder engine mounts in the scout, but in my truck, and in a travel-all I owned (both are 73') both had the single mount under the harmonic balancer. I can bet that there are probably holes for this type of mount on the front of the frame on your scout. Even if it currently has saddle type mounts.

Now for the transmission, is it an automatic or manual? If it is an automatic I can almost bet that it is a torqueflight 727. If it is a manual, then I can say I have no idea.

I'm not realsure about that early of a block. But what I can tellyou is that most trucks had the single mount onder the harmonics balancer and some even had some type of double dog bone type mount. Scouts had the side mount style, all IH v-8 blocks that I have seen has had all the holes drilled and tapped for all motor mount styles that IH had.
