Hi guys, I'm desperately trying to find a online diagram of a dana 44 front diff. I have one from a 78/79 scout. Somehow theres been a seal left out of it somewhere, oil pours straight out the ends around the axles. Is there supposed to be seal next to the carrier ? or is it sealed at the ends of the tubes? (in which case the oil would run right out to the ends when its tilted?
A little late...but maybe it will help somebody. There are two seals inside the housing, to the outside of the carrier bearings. They fit in the axle tubes & the carrier must be removed (it figures!) to install them. There are outer seals on the halfshafts but they won't seal the oil from leaking, they are for dirt & dust. Mike
