IH slant fours

I have the opportunity to buy a IH pickup (it was a really short little rig) and of unknown vintage for 50 bucks, it has the IH slant four, three speed and dana 18. my
question(s) is/are about the motor, how well do they run are they hard to get parts for (Ive got time and am patient and im used to having to wait i drive AMCs)
it appears to have a V8 distributor. the cap has eight prongs but only four are connected. the others appear to have the rubber plugwire boots on them. am I going to have problems finding points for this thing? Id be buying this rig for the axles, the tranny and case, and the motor is a nice plus. Hope fully i can make it run, get a decen rame under it, and make it into some kind of buggy.
thanks for putting up with my annoying questions.

Re: IH slant fours

I had a Scout with one of these motors in it way back when it was brand new about 1976 or 77 (Can't remember exactly which) any way it is suppose to be made that way because Internatoinal esentially cut a 392 in half to make them. they used as amny 392 V-8 parts on it as possible to cut the cost of production. Take a look at the post "What 4 cyl in a 80 Scout 2, it talks a little about this motor . I don't know how much trouble you would have finding parts for this motor because I haven't had mine for years now but it was a pretty good motor althought it seemed to need to be timed very often.
