VIN code designator
Does anyone have a good source for figuring out everything on a VIN? I'm specifically looking at the 8th digit, which I believe signifies the engine... I found a couple of trucks with an 'H' here, but can't figure out what the 'H' means...

Re: VIN code designator
um, your better off checking the block.

on the even side, look right in front of the head. the alt is most often found on this side. there you are gonna find some numbers and letters. this will tell you what kind of motor you have. the shape of flex plate end of the crank is also a give away as to what motor you have.

but, anyway, the codes for v8's.
H 305
K or R 350
N or J 454

Re: VIN code designator
Thanks for the info. This confirmed my thinking that the trucks I was eyeing have a 305 and not a 350.
