72 Chevy P/U questions

Hello all
Iím stepping over here from the Jeepster side of this board with some Questions.
Iím buying a 72 ĺ ton 4x4 Chevy p/u itís a beater and will remain that way but I do need to replace some of the real rusty body parts.
What years will the body parts interchange? Will Ĺ ton and ĺ ton body parts interchange?

Thanks
Chiefcarp

Re: 72 Chevy P/U questions

glad you have come to the chevy world.

Which body style is the 72 and 3/4? The older 71 style or the newer 73+ style? You will need to know that when ordering parts.

Many body parts and drive train parts are interchangeable between 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks, but not every piece. So double check before ordering. I can think of only a few pieces which do not interchange between 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks, so for the most part you are safe. There may be slight styling differences between 1/2 and 3/4 trucks on some body parts, and differences across years. But most these differences are cosmetic.

One additional note. Many places are making new chevy truck body parts. However, they are all not created equal. You do get what you pay for when it comes time to fit them to the truck.

chiefcarp, I'm pretty sure your body panels will change over without a problem. Check out www.lmctruck.com or www.chevyduty.com and look at the online parts catalog. Find the sheetmetal replacement panels and look at what years they fit. The only thing that might rear it's head is the molding peices on the side, the holes they leave behind are probably different with the levels of trim. you mentioned that it'll remain a beater so that probably won't bother you anyway.
