Insurance on Lifted Vehicles

A buddy of mine just picked up an already lifted 2500 Chevy last week. Anyway, he went to insure it with his current agent and was told that there was problems since the current providers that he represents don't cover lifted, or "highly modified off road vehicles" as he put it. He mentioned that if that wasn't claimed at the start of the policy, they could reject a claim if he ever got in an accident. He ended up getting it insured through the agent I deal with, so I was relieved since I have never said anything to my agent about my jeep. I know several states have lift laws, but this is the first I had heard of with insurance. I suppose, anything to get out of paying. They love to raise your premium for any little thing, but hate to pay out.

Re: Insurance on Lifted Vehicles

Only insurance trouble we've ever had was insuring out '68 Corvette. The old company only wanted to insure it if we drove it less than 2,000 miles a year, only to car shows, or only for a "Sunday drive". Our new one is like, heck drive it all you want, that's a nice car.

Re: Insurance on Lifted Vehicles

I was also worried about getting my truck covered under my insurance, but they told me that anything that bolted into the stock position was covered under regular insurance, and that was after they had seen the truck. Hopefully I wont run into any trouble with it, but who knows with insurance companies.
