Fuel Mileage Questions

I am looking at an 86 Chevy K10 with a brand new 305 stock crate engine and a 4 speed tranny. I was just curious as to what kind of gas mileage this truck would get, and how does a four speed transmission do on highway since it lacks an overdrive gear?

Re: Fuel Mileage Questions

What kinda gearing in the rear? If it's got 2.73:1s it'd get better mileage than 4.10:1s. My carbed 400sbc powered K2500 w 4speed & 4.10s gets better city economy than highway. Example: For me @ 60 mph I'm turning 2700 rpm; & @ 75 mph I'm turning 3250 rpm. This is with 235/85-16 tires, right close to stock size.

btw, I get about 12mpg with 70% highway / 30% city.
