4spd to th400 swap what will it take

I have a 87 r20 truck with a heavy duty 4spd trans that I would like to replace with a th400 . Do iI need an extend or long tail trany or can I use one from a car

You can just take one out of a car and bolt it on your transfer case because of the fact that the tail shaft in a car tranny is longer so either you can find a tail shaft tear the tranny apart put the tail shaft in or you can just find a 4x4 tranny. Your best bet is to find one with a transfer case because your may not bolt up or may be wrong spline. Other than that you have to have a different cross member and drill new holes in your frame you need a flexplate insted of a flywheel and you will need your drive lines redone. Good luck

not to mention bell housing if its from a olds, buick or pontiac

side note: i thought you only needed like 50 posts to not be a noob anymore, i guess even the moderators left the forum too (cause this place died)
