Mechanical Clutch Questions

The recent hydro clutch conversion has got me thinking and the search didn't get me answers so here I go. I've started slowly prepping of my '76 Jimmy trailrig to get ready to transfer my '83 cab onto it. But, now that I picked up this '72 Jimmy with the SM465 and 205 combo, I've started thinking a different route. Instead of using the 76' frame and running gear that has the turbo350 and 203 case, I'm thinkng about going the manual route instead and mounting the cab instead on the 72. Not only does this keep the 76 useable so I can still be out on the trails during my buildup this summer, but I feel it also gives me a better setup in the end for the riding I do. From reading old posts, I see how to get the pedals and linkage set up, but then I started thinking about another idea. I've seen jeeps with a hand clutch lever setup mounted to the stick which frees up the foot to hold the brake in sticky situations. Has anyone done this with the SM465 or do you need to be He-man without hydraulic assist? I searched the jeep sites too and came up empty handed as well. Anyone got any advice or know of anyone who has done this???

Re: Mechanical Clutch Questions

w/ the hydro you wouldnt have to be a heman, but its prolly more work/ effort/ time than its worth. just roll your foot from the brake to gas and your good. i just feel getting it to work would be to much a hassle.

Re: Mechanical Clutch Questions

Must have been a few too many brews when I started thinking about this mod. A recent post on the jeep board jogged my memory on that lever on the stick. It was a hand throttle and not a clutch one that I had seen. That makes a lot more sense.
