How to Kill an Optima.

I thought my Optima would last a little longer than 3 years. In the last few months I killed it several times. Twice with my On-Board left on all night. Then when my crappy alternator died and I didn't notice it until it was too late. So a total of (4) conplete drain downs to nothing in the last couple of months and it is now dead. Got a new Powermaster 140Amp alternator and stole the Optima from my race car (it needed a smaller battery anyway).

And I thought the Optimas were tough.

i have a yellow top deep cycle that i've ran empty several times, and still works flawlessly. not too bad for a battery i got off the core pile at work 4 years ago, and have been used alot in that time.

Re: How to Kill an Optima.

I've left my CB, lights and radio on for about 2 hours and have yet to kill my Red Top. I also have an 85 Amp alternator pushing it so that may make a difference.

Re: How to Kill an Optima.

The red top is nice. I think the yellow top will put up with drain and recharging, thats what deep cycle means right. Kind of like golf carts that sit and then need to be recharged. I have a red top and it died a while ago. I had to drive like 4 hours for it to get a good charge. I have been told that you cannot charge the red tops like a reg battery. I think they just take a long time.
