350 Turbo Transmission Help

I have 1981 Chevy pkup that I put on 1978 chevy 4x4 frame. I need to know what I need to do to my 350 Turbo Transmission for make it work on 4x4. Some people say it can't be done then some people say you change tail housing. If I had some kind of diagram of what it should look like and what I need to do to make it work would help me out alot.

Re: 350 Turbo Transmission Help

well for starters you can't just change the tail housing. To do it that way you have to tear the trany apart change the tail shaft in it and take the tail housting all the way off and the tranny will bolt right to the transfer case. But if you do that you have to find a tail shaft out of a 4x4 or you could just find you a complete 4x4 tranny. You also have one more option and a lot of people do this one high lifter trucks they put a devorced transfer case behine a two wheel drive tranny. So in my opinion i just got dun building a 350turbo, and i would find a 4x4 tranny and if you are looking for a lot of strength I would go with a turbo400 that is what i have so i hope this helped good luck.

Re: 350 Turbo Transmission Help

So in your opinion, it would be easier to just get a new transmission instead of change tail housing and shaft. It is just that my transmission has been rebuilt and have a great shift kit in it. Do you just have to get new tail housing and shaft then match it up with transfer case? Do you know of any manuals or something that would walk me through what I need to do to change it over? I am going to price some transmissions.... Thanks...
