hey i was wondering is this information is correct , i own a 1984 jimmy fullsize and some body told me i can put the gears and carrier out of a older camaro in my stock housing its the corp 10 bolt i belive with the 208 t-case i was wondering if some one could set me strait on that thanks ... and i know where i can get a set of 1976 3 1/2 ton housings front/rear for 300.00 would this be a good deal? would it be worth changing ?
The axles from the 1976 are most likely a GM Corporate 12 BOlt in the rear and a Dana 44 in the front. The Dana 44 is marginally stronger than the 10 Bolt front due to the extra webbing cast into the housing. Those axles MIGHT be in a vehicle with fulltime four-wheel drive, in that case you'll need a set of hubs for the front axle. I think $300 is a pretty good deal for them if they're complete and in working order.
