Need Help with 84 Blazer

I have a 1984 Blazer and I need help/suggestions on axles and running gear. Right now everything is stock with 2.73 gears, but I want to upgrade the axles and running gear. I plan on using a 12/14 bolt rear end and a dana 44/60 front end. I have searched every where and have not had any luck finding axles. I did find a dually sitting in a field up the road with a 14 bolt rear end, but I am not sure if the axle will swap. Can someone please let me know what I will need in the way of transfer case, or will my stock case work? Any help would be great, because I have never got this involved with a project and I want to make sure that things are done right on the first try. Thanks for your help.

Re: Need Help with 84 Blazer

Should be no problem really, I put a corp14 in the rear and a 44 in the front in an afternoon. Found them both at the junkyard. Traded the old 10 bolts for the 14 and bought the 44. That dually rear end wont work, well....you could make it work but that is a headache. I assume you have a 208 transfer case. You will need to get the yoke on your drivline changed out to accomodate the 14 yoke. I put a 205 tc in mine so had to change my drive line lengths. Yours should be pretty close, might need to shorten the back drive line a little since the 14 is bigger. As far as gears it depends on what you want to do with your rig. Highway/city cruisin, or off road all the time. I'm running 4:88s with a locker in the front. With my M465 manual tranny and the low geared 205, my highway driving is a minimum (4800 rpm at 65mph) 4:10s are a pretty good middle of the road gear though, depending also on what size tires you put on. Have fun.

Re: Need Help with 84 Blazer

I found a 3/4 ton 72 chevy with a 14 bolt rearend. I still have not been able to find a front end. I should be able to use this rear axle, right?
