switching bodies

I am new to this board and I am hoping that someone may be able to help me. Every body here seems real knowledgable. I have a 86 Suburban 2wd.I want to switch the body on to a 86 4wd 3/4 frame. The problem that I am trying to work out is...I just bought 15in tires for the 2wd (before I found the 4wd) The 4wd has a 8 lug pattern. Does anyone know of any15 in rims that can be bought with 8 lugs? [img]images/graemlins/AR15firing.gif[/img] <font color="brown"> </font color>

Most Rims out there can be bought with both 6 or 8 lugs. Shouldn't be a problem!

Congrats on getting a 3/4 ton 4x4, those are the way to go! 350 or 454?

Unfortunatly it is only a 350. Have another question for you. I forgot to post this question too. Will we have any problems making the 15 in rims work on the 4wd. Someone told us that they would work with the drums but not with the rotors. Any ideas??? This parts guy said that you cant put 15in rims on what should have 16in rims.. Please help!! I really want todo this as I am getting this whole suburban for $100.Body has a little damage but the rest of it is perfect.

I'm pretty sure 15" rims will fit no prob on a stock 4x4 burb, but can't verify that. Try posting on/searchin on coloradok5.com's suburban specific fourm.

Anyways good luck, those old school suburbans are AWESOME!

Depending on the backspacing, 15" rims will work on anything

For 6 Lug, any 15" will work

For 8 Lug with 3/4 ton front axle they will fit the front with no grinding of the brake caliper as long as they are around 3" backspacing or less

For 8 Lug with 1 ton front axle they will fit the front with no grinding of the brake caliper as long as they are around 2" backspacing or less

When using more backspacing that perscribed, you may have to grind the brake caliper down where it contacts the wheel

Any 15" 8 lug wheel will fit on any rear axle that is 8 lug

I plan on running 15 x 8 2" BS wheels on my Dana 60

Oh, all 15" 8 lug wheels are steel now

Rezzy is correct about the rims, should be no probs fitting over the drums in the rear.. Problem will be up front with the caliper if the back spacing isn't correct..

Colorado K5 has a good article about caliper shaving, etc.

The transmission tunnel from the 2WD cab will likely not work with the 4wd drivetrain.

What tranny is in the 2wd, and what tranny/tcase is in the 4wd..

I'm swapping a 76 cab onto an 82 frame right now and have not ran into any problems yet... expect GM wants my left nut for new cab mounts..

Speaking of which anyone got any sources for rubber (NOT POLY) replacement cab mounts??

I disagree. The transmission tunnel is the same 2wd or 4wd. You'll just have to cut a hole to fit the 4wd lever.

trans tunnel is NOT always the same but you can cut out the tunnel and use the removable tunnel from the 4x4 if they are different. LMC in kansas city sells rubbers for about $100 for a set with new hardware.
