Exhaust $$$?

I need to replace my exhaust; everything behind the manifolds with the exception of the cat.
Midas wants about $600 . That's installed, with lifetime warranty. I probably won't go there, but wanted an idea of how much $ I'd need.

What would you all expect to pay for this? Its on my 89 Suburban.

Re: Exhaust $$$?

Buy parts from Summit or Jegs and piece it all together yourself. You could clamp it all together and do all of that in your driveway. Do you weld or have anyone that could put it together for you? That would keep the cost down.

Re: Exhaust $$$?

Thanks. I may go that route. I'm going to do some more calling around tomorrow.
I'll probably get a set of headers too.

Re: Exhaust $$$?

I found a shop that will do it for around $350. I also found a kit on summit, with headers, pipes and mufflers for $220.
Does anybody have any experience with such a kit?

Thanks again.

Re: Exhaust $$$?

That kits seems way too cheap if it comes with headers. A decend set of headers alone will cost that much or more. And you don't want to mess with cheap headers, its hard enough to keep good ones tight and to keep them from leaking...

Re: Exhaust $$$?

That's the kit that I put on my Blazer... the only complaint that I have is that I have to keep retightening my header bolts... but that's pretty common no matter what kind of headers you have...

Re: Exhaust $$$?

Cool thanks. They're Dynomax headers and mufflers. I haven't heard anything good or bad about them before.
I'm still undecided.
