frame questions

I know that this is a silly question but mabye you all can answer this for me.

when it comes to putting a hitch on the truck what is thee difference between the short bed and long bed frames? reason is that I have a short bed and have a chance at free hitch from the long bed my uncle just picked up..

Re: frame questions

it should bolt right up to your truck. if your truck didnt come with factory tow hitch you might need to drill out the holes for it but im pretty shure the holes should be there already take it easy good luck and happy towing

Re: frame questions

the shortbed frame is shorter in the back too. I actually pliced a long bed frame to my shortbox truck from the cab back ever bending the frame htere and had to cut off about 6 inches on the back side too. I bet it will either bolt on still or with some ingenuity and a drill you can make it work.

Re: frame questions

The difference is where the spring hangers sit in relation to the frametails. If the hitch came off a 3/4 ton it should fit on a shortbox. 3/4 tons got 56" springs whereas halftons got 52". The difference between the shortbox frametail length and the 3/4 ton frametail length is probably very close.

Also, 2wds didn't get the frame support that goes between the lower part of the frame channel to the spring hanger. So if the hitch came off a 2wd it might not universally fit a 4x4. This is usually where the issue is at. This is especially true of Class V receivers which go forward of the spring hanger.

Moral of the story: measure it. Chances are you can modify it to fit anyway.
