205 Transfercase oil

I finished rebuilding my 205 case. what type of lube should i use? one book says gear lube, another trans fluid, some others say 30 w oil. what is best for long life. john

Gear lube,80 or 90 weight.Motor oil can be used in an emergency,not tranny fluid.

I have seen them with both gear oil and ATF in them. I always use the gear oil, but in the colder climates they did put in ATF.

Until I read through this post I thought that ATF was the way to go with an NP 205. My manual tells me to use ATF. I changed my fluids before this winter. (I am in VT, and it is cold) and I thought nothing of putting a good quality syn. ATF in there. Should I be worried about my seals going bad?
